glider rocker bearings

About the bearings: These bearings are made by the same American manufacturer that has been making bearings for glider rockers since the rockers were invented. They are a low speed bearing made of steel construction throughout. They have a light zinc finish and are lightly greased internally when assembled. The metal shield prevents dusts and contaminants from easily entering the bearing. The bore is smooth and fits a standard 3/8" bolt perfectly. This allows you to use any length bolt you need to build or repair your rocker. We have personally repaired several rockers with this bearing with great success and happy customers.

This hardware kit is what you need to build one rocker. You will need to drill a 1-1/8" hole for the SKF bearings to push into. We highly recommend using nothing but hardwoods. The bolts, nuts and washers are 3/8". The screws are #6 square recess drive. This produces the same simple arrangement as used by the chair manufacturers.

Most glider rockers can easily be repaired with a new ntn bearing. Glider rockers are popular porch furniture that can be used inside the home as well. Repairing the bearing on a glider rocker, in most cases, is as simple as taking out the broken bearing and replacing it. Most bearing problems will not require any more than the most basic of DIY work. For replacements, a standard 3/8-inch bolt fits the majority of common rocker gliders. Does this Spark an idea?

I was asked to do some repairs on 2 rockers in our church's nursery. One is a traditional wood rocker and the other a gliding rocker. The traditional rocker was just a re-glue issue, so no problems. On the gliding rocker it was missing 2 nuts that caused it to torque to one side and broke one of the pivot bushings. I tried my local woodworking and hardwood stores, but they don't carry them. I found some online but they only sell  the pivot bushings in packages of 8 ranging in price from about $80-$100 plus shipping which is not an option for the church as they would choose to toss it as opposed to putting money into it. The ladies that work in the nursery like this chair over the traditional rocker, so they would be disappointed if it had to go. The pivot bushings are pretty much industry standard for the commercially made gliding rockers.

So I am asking if any one of you fine, handsome, kind hearted and hardware hoarding fellow woodworkers might by chance to have one of these glider pivot bushings somewhere in your shop that you would be willing to pass along to me for this repair? I will be happy to pay you for it and the shipping out here to Corona, CA in the 92881 Zip Code. Below is a photo of what I am talking about.

Thanks for the input guys. These glider rocker bearings  are specific purpose by design for gliding rockers, so trying to get something else to fit is very problematic and I can't do a re-design on the chair frame as it has had previous repairs done to it by someone using a lot of glue and screws so I would basically have to make some new frame parts which is not going to happen. So I will keep looking.
